Blog post 7: Ballet
1) I learned that Ecuadorian culture values the earth greatly. Claudia and the director both spoke about how important the earth is to indigenous cultures. It provides us with everything we need and should be given the utmost respect. Claudia also said that the colors were representative of the earth, I figured the costumes would be colorful but I had no idea just how bright it would be. I often found myself looking at the intricacy of the costumes rather than the dance moves (although both were beautiful). It is clear that the different indigenous cultures also have a lot of pride for their culture and country as well as their work.
2) I was only able to keep up with about half of what the director was saying, but I was able to understand many of the stories through the dance. By using universally recognizable signals, like carrying a bundle in ones arms to signify a child, dance is able to communicate past language barriers.
