#12: May, 16- Family & Neque y mas Neque
1) How have your initial perceptions of your host family changed since you first arrived?
My initial perceptions of my host family have changed slightly since I first arrived. At first I felt somewhat awkward sitting with them at dinner or trying to sustain some conversation. Now breakfast and dinner has been very enjoyable and I appreciate how they always serve us promptly. I can tell they enjoy our company as well, and it definitely is not awkward being around them. I always thought that they were very friendly and they still are. Dominique, is an intern who works with the school and lives with our family as well. At first she was not very friendly and seemed somewhat judgemental. Now she is much more friendly and we have a lot more conversations during meals or even when we see her at the school.
2) What was the most important contribution you made at Neque today and why?
The most important contribution I made today was helping with the painting of the new Alma mural on the wall. I helped trim the weeds down with a machete which was cool, and also helped get as much painting done as possible before the storm came in. Once the rain came (and wasn't leaving), I helped the crew get all the paint, brushes, and trays inside under cover. I also helped get the wall quickly covered with a tarp to hopefully keep it from getting ruined. I think we definitely got a good base down with paint today considering the time we had.
