At last, the final blog post of Ecuador Trip 2017!  While I had a heck-of-a-good time in Quito, I was glad to return to my country. After reviewing the blog posts of three students, I identified several examples of effective communication and one particular example of ineffective communication.

For instance, Elizabeth demonstrated ineffective communication when she stated "I feel like I respond to my host parents with the same answers all the time. I want to be able to tell them more about myself and let them understand more of who I am." In other words, because of a limited span of vocabulary and grammar, Elizabeth struggled to maintain a variety of conversations.

On the other hand, Zi demonstrated a good use effective communication when she wrote in her blog " I was impressed by them because even though I barely speak any Spanish, I can really understand their emotions without words. They have the desire of being loved in their eyes." Even though Zi's Spanish isn't very good, she was able to communicate non-verbally--a form of effective communication.

Lastly, Carly Vix demonstrated a good use of effective intercultural communication when she visited the children at Ñeque mas Ñeque. Carly wrote "Thankfully we were able to overcome these challenges through using common gestures and expressions such as high fives, hugs, smiles, and dancing. I feel that sometimes these forms of communication are all you need..." Carly, as with a majority of the class, was limited to conversational communication because she doesn't know a lot of Spanish. However, she was still able to communicate effectively using gestures. I really give those students who do not speak Spanish a lot of credit. I am proud of everyone who tried their best to overcome the language barrier.
