After attending the ballet, I can truly say I was wowed by the experience. I have never in my life encountered so many colors, sounds, and emotions in one night of fun and excitement. One specific thing about Ecuadorian culture that I learned was that Ecuadorian culture is alive. According to Claudia, Ecuadorian culture is rich beautiful and "siempre chebre" which means always cheerful.

My favorite part was the last song/dance before intermission. I was absolutely amazed. All of the colors, sounds, and dancing made me want to participate. Of course, those dancers made it look easy--that is until the dancers danced with the ribbons. I was shocked at how the dancers could move their feet so quickly while at the same time maintain a graceful appearance. I was also shocked at how the dancers didn't get tangled in the rope during the dance. What was even more astonishing was when the dancers untied the ribbons. Each dancer must have had a special set of choreographed moves that allowed the dances to avoid a collision. I was mesmerized by quality of technique the dancers had. Each dancer had a specific characteristic that made them an important role in the ballet.

This ballet was a form of non verbal communication because the actors and actresses who performed were able to tell a story without speaking. Even thought there were a few instances where the actors/actresses screamed or shouted, there was not a lot of talking. The actors/actresses were able to coney a message through their expressions on their faces, their body movements and their acting skills. For instance, I really enjoyed the dance with the deer. At first, I wasn't sure if I understood why their were 6, half-naked people on stage. But, after paying careful attention to the actors, I realized the actors were performing as deer. Their body language/moments made it clear that the deer were running around, fighting, and also being chased by humans. There was no need for spoken language since the actors were able to speak through their movements, their costumes, and most of all, the music. The music was so important to the entire performance. Without the musicians, I feel as thought the ballet would have never been able to exist. The musicians were able to tell the story by the change in instrumentation, the change in style and a change in tempo. Slow songs were played with a slow beat and softer instrument sounds. Louder songs were jovial and upbeat.

I am truly grateful to have been able to attend this performance. I will never forget the colors, sounds, and performers that made Ecuadorian culture come to life.
