A huge difference I noticed
from the beginning of the El Cambio de la Guardia is how there is far less
security compared to what we would see if we were at the White House. We noticed
a few snipers on buildings but the security detail that surrounded the
president was very little in comparison to what would be surrounding the United
States’ President. Something I found to be similar was how the people
participating had a certain amount of love and adoration for a political figure
like the President. This week’s ceremony was particularly important for
Ecuadorians because this was one of two remaining El Cambio de la Guardia. We
took the bus to El Cambio de la Guardia and it is very similar to public
transportation that I have taken both in New York City and in Chicago. They are
almost always crowded and by the time 5:00 pm rolls around the bus is packed
with people giving them absolutely no room to move. Similar to New York City
and Chicago Quito’s public transportation goes all over the city and can get
you anywhere. If you were in a smaller city in the United States you would be
more likely to run into issues with finding a bus that will get you where you
need to go.
