1) I am most excited to once again be able to speak freely and easily. The language barrier makes even small tasks like explaining to a taxi driver where you live daunting and at times stressful. It can be difficult to communicate exactly what you want to say if you don't know all the words, so sometimes I would find myself holding back or struggling to talk around words I don't know. This trip reinforced my belief that you should never take language for granted, because without it you can feel at times very much like an outsider. I am also looking forward to getting back to the food I usually eat. Ecuador has a lot of meat heavy dishes and I usually eat little to no meat and lots of vegetables.
2) Although life will be admittedly easier when I go back to the states, I am really going to miss speaking Spanish. I love having the practice and it has been a fun challenge. This kind of opportunity to practice and improve in Spanish is rare and has been a blessing for me. I am leaving Ecuador much more confident in my Spanish and much more determined to keep going with it. It will be a challenge when I am back home to find ways to practice speaking Spanish. I am going to miss the abundance of things to do in this city, there is so much life and so much happening. I am also really going to miss the mountain views and the trees in Quito. I loved being able to look out the windows at breakfast every morning and see the beautiful mountains.
