I will admit that the thing I am looking forward to the most when I get back home is some good, processed, junk food. It seems strange, because I like the food in Ecuador, and am almost always willing to be adventurous and try new foods. But that sense of adventure is exactly the problem. I rarely feel as though I can just gulp down anything placed in front of me, secure in the knowledge of exactly what it is and what it will taste like. The classic foods from home will allow me to eat with that security intact, and that security is what I really miss. I think the thing I will miss the most about Ecuador is the sense of adventure that I could feel every time I left the house, whether it was just to class at the academia or to some other attraction. After a wonderful day of traveling, I think my favorite part of the city tour was when we went down to the tombs in St. Augustine's. It was fascinating to go down the ladder, into complete darkness, and see the graves of historically important people. It almost felt like an honor--to pay my respects to historical figures.
ReplyDeleteWhat I learned about Santiago was down right disturbing. For instance, I learned that he lost his temper and as a result of an interruption, he pulled the ear off of the "intruder." I also learned that he spent his time in the in the asylum painting.
What I was surprised about the most today was how congested the streets are with traffic. Every bump and turn felt like a rollercoaster. I was also shocked that at 9,000 ft. in elevation, I could almost touch the clouds. I cannot wait for the cloud forrest adventure.
