Caitlin Neque day #2
The Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis states that language shapes culture. So far I have seen a few instances where that has been true, but overall I have seen that language is not the only element of their culture. Even when we can't communicate or understand their language all of the time, we were able to understand their culture. We saw the way they interact with each other and with other people. Their language has an impact on communication and the interpretation of things, but there are so many other elements of culture that really help us see who the people really are. By watching the kids dance, or work, or play we saw a part of their lives. Communication was at times difficult, but when possible we learn more about their culture, sometimes things we don't know about, but it is always changing.
