Mitad del Mundo and Mamma Corinda

One of the most surprising information I learned about Mitad del Mundo was the shrunken heads. I had heard of them before, but I didn’t actually know what they were or their significance. I didn’t realize that they actually used to do this to real people. The process was very fascinating and also disturbing. I thought the sizes of the heads were incredible. I was also very surprised that the heads have been preserved so well. It was incredible to see something that old. Another thing that I found fascinating were all of the “tests” that we did on the equator. My favorite was walking the line. I thought it was interesting that it felt like you were falling. I am not sure I believe all of the tricks, but I thought it was cool that we were able to do hands-on activities. It made the tour really fun! Lastly, I learned a lot about the structures that the people lived in over there. I thought it was fascinating that there is a house that is still standing for so many years ago. It was interesting when she was explaining how the house was built. When she was explaining that it has survived earthquakes, I thought that this was very surprising. It is crazy that homes are still standing.

I thought that the food at Mama Clorinda’s was very good! I ordered the llapangachos with chicken. There was so much food. I really enjoyed it. I am really bad when it comes to remembering the names of the food that I tried, but I really liked the appetizer that tasted like cornbread and had cheese in the middle. It was wrapped in a corn husk. This was really good—probably my favorite food I tried there. I also really liked the shrimp that was cooked by spices and lime juice. When I took my first bite, I was expecting it to be warm. This was not the case. It didn’t have a strong fish taste and had great flavor. I am not a big fish-eater, but I really enjoyed this dish. I was also expecting it to be really spicy and was surprised when it wasn’t. It was something I had never tried before, but would definitely be willing to try it again.
