My favorite part about the city tour was our first stop at the overlook.  This view really encompassed the beauty of Quito.  As well, it was super interesting to just see how the infrastructure was built around the mountains and the valleys.  The scale of the town really stood out to me at this point as well.  Quito is home to over 2.5 million people and it’s very hard to image if you can see that much of it.

I learned the most at San Augustine’s monastery.  This place had so much beauty and history packed into one place.  I learned the history about the independence of Quito and some of the craziness that is required to make the most intricate and appealing places.  I am specifically relating to the painter that did all the paintings for the monastery.  He spent 13 years in a crazy like state, but created so many very beautiful paintings and sculptures.

What surprised me the most had to be our visit to the chapel painted with gold.  I could not get over the detail and time that had been put into the building.  Until today, the most gold that I have ever seen.  On top of the gold though, the architecture throughout Quito is so mesmerizing.  We have many historical landmarks and buildings at home in the US, and many of them are just as amazing to see as the things we saw in Quito.  In the end though, the things we saw in Quito we will never be able to experience something as equal anywhere else in the world.
