Ziling Liang - May 13th - Blog Ten

My favorite part of Bella Vista is getting close to the nature of rain forest. Actually, I am not a person who like hiking or staying in the wet places, however, since it was my first time entered a totally new environment with a lot of moisture and forest, which increased my knowledge a lot. I have seen different animals like various hummingbirds and big centipedes and also a lot of different plants that I even did not know their name before. 

On the other hand, as I mentioned that I do not like wet environment, the forest made me really struggle with the surroundings with a lot of moisture. I felt bad when I touch something wet or with soil. Therefore, before we got to the fall, which we had to jump into the water first, I was very uncomfortable with everything in the cloud forest. Then, after I totally got wet in the water, I believe I have successfully deal with this trouble. I did not need to care how clean myself was.


By this weekend, I still felt like I was living in another country. However, when I was having breakfast today, I said “gracias" without thinking to the waitress, which made me realized that I have kind of join into the life here. Even my Spanish is still poor, at least, I have started and learned more things gradually. So, hopefully, I will have more verbal communication with people in Spanish in the next week.

      I will admit that the thing I am looking forward to the most when I get back home is some good, processed, junk food. It seems strange, because I like the food in Ecuador, and am almost always willing to be adventurous and try new foods. But that sense of adventure is exactly the problem. I rarely feel as though I can just gulp down anything placed in front of me, secure in the knowledge of exactly what it is and what it will taste like. The classic foods from home will allow me to eat with that security intact, and that security is what I really miss.      I think the thing I will miss the most about Ecuador is the sense of adventure that I could feel every time I left the house, whether it was just to class at the academia or to some other attraction. 1) what are you most excited about returning to in the US? What I am most looking forward to about heading home is the opportunity to share my experiences with others. I want to share the funny stories of my host family with my friends and family here in the U.S. so that they too can be exposed to some Ecuadorian culture. I am very much looking forward to returning home because I will use my experience of Ecuador to further think about what it is I want to do with my life.
