I believe that beauty is subjective and universal. According to Guayasamin's art, I believe that he was more on abstractionism and humanism. All of his works are full of strong emotions towards big events in the world like wars and political issues. He painted in a distorted way in order to exaggerate the pain behind humans. Even though he does not belong to realism, however, his paintings mostly include a lot of details like blood, bones, and the meanings behind colors. And I have noticed that almost every painting was made under the background of wars or political issues. He cared about his own country, Ecuador, so that he made paintings like Homenaje a Nicaragua to express his sympathy towards people who lived under an authoritarian government. Besides, he also cared about political problems of other countries, and that was the reason why he painted many works like Madre de la India to reflect how bad the living condition was in India at that time. Obviously, his paintings are somehow painted just for the politIcal events in the world.
Since Guayasamin contributed all of his life in paintings for Ecuador and the world, his greatness is not only about how fantastic his paintings are, but also a voice speaking to all humans through his works that the world needs peace and everyone should take actions. If I were Ecuadorian, I would be proud that there was such a great artist in my country. I would be stimulated by him because I read the history deeply though these paintings. He is an artist that belongs to his country and the peace of the earth. And Guayasamin, as this kind of artist, definitely will cause some controversial issues from people who are as the positive objects in his painting, and this is also the reason why his painting of Chilean dictator, Augosto Pinochet, was remove from the museum. If we have a same believe as Guayasamin's, we, as an objective audience, are able to understand and agree with his meanings behind each painting. However, when people who are portrait as bad in his paintings see his works, they might react strongly. As I said that beauty is subjective, when someone does nit not like a painting, it is hard for him or her to receive the information from it. And, in this case, beauty will not be beautiful anymore. I believe this is the reason why this painting was removed.
